The most common reason for thyroid surgery is the presence of nodules or tumours on the thyroid gland. Most of these thyroid nodules are benign but some are cancerous or pre-cancerous. There are several different types of hormone surgery. The most common are lobectomy, subtotal thyroidectomy, and total thyroidectomy.
